I was only 2, but remember it well ... it was a lot more interesting and less depressing for a toddler than it was for your mum!Debra-Jaynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06993248658024083279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687043.post-61000222922158323392011-12-24T20:38:47.203+10:002011-12-24T20:38:47.203+10:00Wacol hostel, a distant good memories!Wacol hostel, a distant good memories!tvnguyenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02431250282589929073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687043.post-61073541421397154522011-12-24T20:36:56.350+10:002011-12-24T20:36:56.350+10:00I arrived at Wacol Hostel in late 1975. Those were the best months of my exilic life. The Autralian treated, provived us refugees exceptionally well. I have nothing but the good memories and gratitude to the Aussie.tvnguyenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02431250282589929073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687043.post-72985727960332129392011-01-04T08:56:07.151+10:002011-01-04T08:56:07.151+10:00Wow, how weird something about the Wacol Hostel - ...Wow, how weird something about the Wacol Hostel - isn't the internet an amazing thing. Myself and my husband were there, very briefly, in 1974. We arrived from Ireland, quite shell shocked at the conditions and left after about 3/4 weeks and went to Ipswich. My memories are of the sound of cockroaches running across the floor at night, the mozzies from a nearby swamp and the smells from a pickled onion factory which were nearby. Nice to know that others had better memories! I don't have clear memories of the place - only photos that jog memories.

We stayed in the wooden huts and we even have a photo of my brothers and I sitting on the front steps - just like you and your sister!

Thanks for putting up your photos does bring back a vague but sentimental feeling .Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10574779191681213871noreply@blogger.com
